Summer’s out for school

September is around the corner which means one thing – Summer is coming to an end. Yes, summer’s out for school.

For many of you, this means it’s time to start thinking about putting down that summer Malibu, hiding the PS4 controllers from yourself and turning off the TV/Netflix (no more love island) as crunch time is on the horizon.

Whether this is your 1st time doing A Level, IB or Foundation Mathematics or you’re taking resits this year, things don’t generally get easier from here. This academic year, you’ll probably face more workload, harder challenges and resultantly more pressure than you’ve ever faced. But the good news is that all of this can be managed if you have discipline and determination.

The wise man

Once upon a time, when I did A levels, a wise man said to me, ‘this year will determine the next 65 years of your life’.

To be honest, it’s probably not possible to prove whether he was right or wrong because I’m not even 30 yet, but I think I understand what he meant.

A-Levels can help you, but they don’t have to define you

A-Level and IB mathematics are regarded as ‘facilitating subjects’. This means that it’s a subject favoured by the Russell Group and top universities. Scoring highly in A-Level mathematics can subsequently land you a place in banking, engineering, Actuarial, Maths Tutoring, and many more juicy opportunities. I’ll be the first to admit that my number one endorsement is achieving a First-Class honours degree in Mathematics. It was the first attraction to employers which helped get my foot in the door as a banker. Read this article.

On the other hand, you can’t ignore that there are plenty of even more successful people, who either flunked their A Levels or are classed as ‘non-academics’. These guys have worked at their crafts to become YouTube sensations, influencers, digital marketing moguls and many have even become expert software developers after taking QA apprenticeships with no degree.

You have time

For those of you who have enrolled in my academy, your 1st exam is 3rd June 2020. That’s exactly 277 days away. I’m not the wise man, but I can tell you this for free – you have plenty of time! So, let’s not concede to defeat already. Regardless of your ability or predicted grade, if you’re taking these exams, you have plenty of time to turn it around. You just need discipline, the right training and exposure. At Air Maths Tuition, we’ll provide all the tools to support you to success.

Conclusion

We all know the famous quote by Benjamin Franklin, ‘by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail’.

It doesn’t matter how smart you think you are; you need a plan – you simply can’t wing these A-Levels, mate. They have been designed for you to do well if and only if you prepare with thought. So, shall we make a plan?

In the next blog post, I’ll be planning for the upcoming academic year, and giving you some useful things to think about before we get started!
