Cameron

Online maths tutor

Hi! I’m Cameron, a PhD Mathematics student at University of Nottingham. In 2020, I graduated from UoN with a First Class MMath degree specialising in mathematical physics and was awarded the First Martin Pluck Prize for graduating with the highest overall average (90%) over the four years. I achieved 100% in three modules in my degree and studied a broad range of topics from calculus and probability theory, through to black holes and quantum field theory. I achieved A* in both GCSE and A-Level mathematics and grade A (highest grade) in the OCR FSMQ (Free-Standing Mathematics Qualification). I didn’t just turn up to the exams and receive these grades so I understand well the frustrations that can occur when trying to understand new topics.

As a tutor, I aim for an open environment where all questions are welcome to support the student. Building strong student engagement is key to me and it is my philosophy that you learn by actively doing, therefore the freedom to think on the student’s part is a core part of a session with me. I take a topic and work towards understanding from the ground up. Why we do something in maths or physics is just as important as doing that thing itself as this is the hook to remembering it.

Away from teaching and researching, I love to play music from a range of genres, from baroque to romance and from musicals to jazz on piano and saxophone!

I have a true passion for mathematics and physics and want to share and bring this out in others too!
